#1: Beware of offers of easy riches from Property – post office former sub-postmaster Kanagasundaram Prince loses £44k of compensation funds

After being awarded £655,000 compensation for being wrongly accused of fraud during the Horizon post office scandal, Kanagasundaram Prince invested into what he thought was a property scheme securing financial security for his future.

#2: Rent Tribunals saving tenants money, partly due to property condition issues

Renters who challenge their rent increases are on average £1,140 per year better off than they would have been had they accepted the landlord’s proposed increase. When used, the tribunal system is robust, and often results in lower rents than that proposed by landlords.

#3: More Social Homes to be built – at last!

#5: Homes sold under Right to Buy rise by 90% – Over two million now sold since 1980

#6 Why UPRNs are fantastic news for everyone and anyone in the property market!

Our property content expert Kate Faulkner is a big fan of Unique Property Reference Numbers (UPRNs) and believes that developers and investors could gain far more detailed insight into property and land values, with the news that UPRNS are going to be linked to sold prices of individual properties, streets, neighbourhoods and land parcels.This could make it easier to identify opportunities, assess sites and make better-informed investment and development decisions.

#7: Record number of landlords taken to court over rent increases

Reported by The Times and Hamptons

Since the Renters’ Rights Act came into force, rent tribunal decisions have risen sharply from an average of 42 a month to 166 in July, as tenants have greater scope and potentially less financial risk when challenging rent increases. Figures analysed by Hamptons show 166 decisions were made during the month, up from 44 in July 2025.

#8: Landlords, are you up to date on the new HHSRS?

The government has published new HHSRS case studies covering all 21 housing hazards, showing through practical examples how properties are assessed and what improvements may be needed to remove Category 1 and reduce Category 2 hazards. For landlords and agents, they provide a useful insight into what an HHSRS assessor is actually looking for – from damp and mould and excess cold to fire, electrical hazards, falls and overcrowding .

#9: Awful story about London flat owners still paying a mortgage on flats destroyed by a fire

Following a fire at Spectrum Building in East London on 26 August 2024, the flat leaseowners have been in a state of limbo for the past two years paying a mortgage on flats destroyed from the fire.

#10: Home Sales in London, South East and East of England take the longest to sell

The average seller has to wait 216 days to sell homes across Britain it’s reported according the latest research from Rightmove. With sale wait times lengthy across Britian, areas such as London see average wait times of up to  244 days.
