LONDON, UK – May 19, 2025
With “1.33 million households currently on local authority housing registers, also known as ‘waiting lists’” (GOV.UK, March 2024), and 127,890 households in temporary accommodation (Dec 2024), England is facing an unprecedented shortage of affordable housing that is getting worse each year. As a short-term solution, local authorities in England are spending significant amounts on temporary accommodation like bed and breakfast placements, which amounted to “nearly £2.3 billion in 2023/4” (Local Government Association) which is crippling the finances of some councils.
So, how can landlords and the Private Rental Sector (PRS) help? Recognising this as an ever-growing problem and a challenge for landlords and the private rented sector to support, the National Landlord Investment Show (NLIS) is proud to announce the launch of a brand-new Renting for Good Housing Panel, set to debut at its upcoming London show on 9th July 2025 at Old Billingsgate, London.
The panel is themed “Renting for Good: An in-depth landlords forum on social impact and supported letting”.The panel seeks to explore how private landlords can bridge the gap between the PRS and tenants who need safe and legally let affordable homes to rent in the absence of social homes.
The extended 90-minute panel will serve as a groundbreaking forum, bringing together key stakeholders from the housing sector as experts, including local authority representatives, housing associations, estate agents, legal experts, landlord bodies, and experienced landlords.
“Although not everywhere, in many parts of England there is a housing crisis which is due to a lack of affordable homes across all tenures: social, PRS and to buy. With the biggest proportion of tenants in the PRS in England on benefits, private landlords have been putting roofs over the heads of 1mn households, bridging the gap between the social and private rental sectors.
With the Renters Rights Bill likely to be introduced in 2025, all private landlords should reassess the best way to let to tenants into the future. And with most/all councils and the rise of social letting agents offering short and long term letting schemes, we’re proud to launch this new initiative at our upcoming London show in July 2025” said Tracey Hanbury, Director and Co-Founder of the National Landlord Investment Show.
Panel Highlights Include:
-
How and why private landlords can benefit from letting to tenants in need, especially when the RRB is implemented with a focus on local authority leasing schemes, ethical letting, affordability challenges, and landlord incentive programmes.
-
